A total of 64 internet-featured startup projects in Pudong, Shanghai, competed for entry into three higher-level startup competitions on Aug 22.

The competitions are Create@ Alibaba Cloud Startup Contest, 2018 "Maker in China" Shanghai Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and Top 50 Startups with the Most Investment Potential in Shanghai in 2018.

The contestants were carefully selected from more than 400 applicants and were divided into three groups.

Nine investors from venture capital institutions such as CMIG Keytech, Chenhui Venture Partners, Zhen Fund, and Innoangel Fund were invited as judges.

Each contestant was given 15 minutes to present their projects and answer questions from the judges. The judges gave marks based on evaluation of quality, competitiveness, and financial conditions of the projects, as well as their team management and driving force for employment.

Winners of the Pudong competition will be able to attend the Shanghai competition of the Create@ Alibaba Cloud Startup Contest, and the 2018 "Maker in China" Shanghai Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in September.

The top 10 startups of the Shanghai competition will then compete with eight overseas winning startups for six places to the global final of the Alibaba contest, set to take place in October.

The top 4 winners of the Shanghai competition will also gain qualification to the national final of the "Maker in China" competition in October.

The results of the Top 50 Startups with the Most Investment Potential in Shanghai in 2018 will be unveiled in December, based on expert evaluation and a public vote via WeChat.

The winners will be added to a database of Shanghai's key startup firms and will get the priority to enjoy certain preferential policies and services.

The events are expected to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the city and help the city reach its goal of becoming an international scientific and technological innovation center, according to the organizers.
