Biomedicine-focused training center opens in Zhangjiang

A biomedicine-focused training center, jointly launched by Shanghai Zhangjiang Biotechnology Co and Waters Corporation, a global biomedicine solution provider headquartered in Milford, Massachusetts, was recently inaugurated in Shanghai's Zhangjiang High Tech Park, Pudong Time reported on Feb 21.

The center, named Bio-therapeutics Characterization & QC Collaborative Training Center, is a product of the country's goal of developing the biomedicine industry into one of China's pillar industries.

It aims to use the two backers' strengths in liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry and bio-pharmacy to become a world leading training center specialized in bio-pharmaceuticals analysis and testing.

Its courses will center on the application of technology, equipment, and software in R&D and monitoring the quality control of biopharmaceuticals. Hiring talented personnel is fundamental and Wang Hao, general manager of Shanghai Zhangjiang Biotechnology Co., has said the venture hopes to nurture leading industry professionals.

Yu Xiaoran, general manager of Waters Greater China, believes the center is sure to be a success due to the strength of its backers and the growing importance of biomedicine in China. 

The two backers agreed that the center will work on standardizing research on bio-therapeutics characterization and quality control, accelerating new drug application, and promoting the combination of medicine and medical equipment.
