Fang Shunong: Tech genius reaches new frontiers
Shanghai Sinyang is a local-based high-tech enterprise that has specialized in providing semiconductor materials since its foundation in 2004.
The Songjiang district company is China’s first semiconductor dedicated chemical material provider to be listed on the stock market. Fang Shunong, managing director of Shanghai Sinyang, has been at the front line of the company’s road to becoming a world class provider of semiconductor materials.
Holding PhDs in chemical physics, Fang is indicative of the company placing importance in research and development and his ability to apply his rich academic experience to practical matters has proved invaluable. It is little wonder the company continues to stand as a pioneer in the semiconductor field.
Fang's overseas success and return to China
Fang was born in Jingdezhen, in Southeast China's Jiangxi province, in 1964. At the age of 30, he gained his PhD in chemical physics and took up postdoctoral research work at the University of Tokyo.
Starting in 1996, Fang has made his reputation working for Epson Singapore, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s Seiko Epson Corporation. For nearly 20 years, the knowledgeable expert led his team bringing in more than 40 global leading hi-tech projects, most of which were based around the business of semiconductor manufacturing and packaging.
Having built a sterling reputation, Fang was promoted to a high position that received similar treatment to Epsom’s board of directors. However, despite his great successes for the company, Fang was pulled by nostalgia and decided return home.
“I belong to the generation that has grown up enjoying the really advantageous policies. I hope to return the favor one day.”
Hence, in 2015 Fang relinquished his position at Epsom and started a new chapter of his career with Shanghai Sinyang.
